What is the Approved Secure English Language Test?

The Approved Secure English Language Test - SELT is a test approved by the UKVI for visas including Leave to Enter and for Leave to Remain, Tier 1, 2, 4 and for British Citizen applications.

What types of Immigration applications require an English Language Test?

There are 2 types of test as different immigration routes require different levels of English language ability. The test you will need to take depends on what Immigration applications you are applying on.

For the following application routes, you will need to take a test that assesses your reading, writing, speaking and listening abilities:

    Innovator

    Start-up

    Tier 2 (General)

    Tier 2 (Minister of Religion)

    Tier 4 (General)

For the following application routes, you will need to take a test that assesses your speaking and listening abilities:

    Tier 2 (Sportsperson)

    Representative of an Overseas Business

    partner

    parent

    settlement (also known as indefinite leave to remain)

    citizenship

Who Are the UKVI Approved SELT Test Providers?

The following are the current UKVI approved SELT Test providers:

1. LanguageCert (UK or overseas)    

2. IELTS SELT Consortium (UK or overseas)

3. Trinity College London (UK only)

4. Pearson (UK and overseas)

The approved LanguageCert tests are:

    LanguageCert International ESOL SELT

    LanguageCert International ESOL SELT (Speaking and Listening)

Where can a SELT Test be taken?

SELT Test must be taken at an approved test centre globally including the UK.
